The Healthcare system is a hot topic of the pre-election period in USA. Hillary Rodham Clinton has just announced her plan for universal health insurance for all Americans and again raised the issue over which she had lost political credibility fourteen years ago. In his acclaimed documentary ,‘Sicko', America's public enemy no1, director Michael Moore deals with the Hilary case, but also with the enitre, highly problematic health insurance system in USA. ‘Sicko' brings up some serious questions. For example, why do some US citizens decide to seek their medical care in Canada, why some seriously ill people are forced to look for more jobs just to pay their medical bills, and why is Cuba the right destination for a few sick 9/11 firefighters. Moore's film premiered in the out-of-competition section in Cannes 07, and you can check it in 5. ZFF's hit pograme Matineja (Matinee).
In this year's documentary section, you can also check the documentay ‘We Are Together' by British director Paul Taylor. By now, this film picked up awards on 10 acclaimed festivals, such as IDFA, Tribeca and Edinburgh. Taylor's documentary is a touching story about an orfanage in South Africa, where most of the children have lost their parents to AIDS. Life was pretty harsh to Slindile and her friends, but when they lift their voices in song, something extraordinary happens.
