Music documentaries on 6th ZFF |
We have included several high-quality musical documentaries in our wealthy supply of docs featured in the main program of the 6th ZFF.
These include 'Slingshot Hip Hop' directed by Jackie Reem Salloum from New York. This documentary was premiered on the last Sundance festival, followed by a presentation on the New York MOMA, and it braids together stories of several young Palestines from Israel and the Gaza strip who decided to drive out the ghosts of poverty and occupation away from their lives through hip-hop music and interpretation of the bold lyrics by Tupac Shakur. The director spoke about her feature debut with Indiewire, and you can check out the interview here.
Other than sound, gravity and movement, protagonists of the rhythmical documentary 'The Soundless Fall of Gravitation' directed by a Berlin resident from Zagreb, Saša Orešković, include Ellington Mingus, Aguševi brass ensemble, Predrag Marić and Zoran Madzirov, a musical nomad who is being followed by a camera as he explores the world through vibrations by playing on anything that resonates, bottles and even tuned bicycle wheels.
Documentary 'Kao da je bilo nekad' directed by Dušan Vesić un-weaves the story about the life and work of Milan Mladenović, frontman in one of the most influential rock bands of former Yugoslavia, Ekatarina Velika. Testimonies by Milan's friends and fellow musicians, comments from critics and art historians will show us an interesting and shocking story about Belgrade in the eighties, a story of art and life of a generation that matured too early. |
