Documentaries on the 6th ZFF |
Our dear guests, we are proud to announce that we have finished and sealed our documentary section for the main program of 6th ZFF. Besides the music documentaries that we have covered here, there will be documentaries about sports among the 12 top-quality documentaries, such as 'Heroes at Work’ by the German director Nina Pourlak that follows ‘toughening up’ process of an undisciplined American boxer in the hands of a “east Germany boxing school” coach whose life motto is ‘Order, work and discipline’.
The dark side of Chinese gymnastic success can be seen in ‘The Red Race’ by a young Chinese director, Chao Gan, who shows us the brutal training sessions and the hard life of Chinese 6-year olds who dream of successful careers in sports. ‘Bigger Stronger Faster’, the first feature film by the US director Chris Bell will explain why he considers Americans a nation on steroids. The muscular director and his two huge brothers grew up idolizing pumped-up muscled men such as Hulk Hogan, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The question Bell asks in this film is the following: Once you find out your idols broke the rules, will you follow the rules or your heroes.
Other than sports and music, we have several documentaries included in the main program that cover the lives of artists who fulfil their life projects in incredible surroundings. 'Salim Baba' directed by Tim Sternberg is this year’s Oscar candidate in the short documentary category, you will also be able to see the documentary portrait 'Cyanosis' directed by Roksareh Ghaemmaghami who follows the story of a young Iranian street painter Jamshid Aminfar who has to face ridicule from passers-by, police questioning and dissatisfaction from his wife on a daily basis, since he lies to her about his work and says he is working as an make-up artist on a local TV station.
After the death of dictator Francisco Franco, Spain underwent a creative explosion known as 'La Movida' or The Movement, where subversive artists such as the now famous Pedro Almodóvar, Alaska or Ouke Leele tested the limits of their new-found freedom and introduced their country to a new period. Everything about Movida, a movement that dissolved its punk ideals in commercial waters with time, can be seen in the documentary by Alejandro Andrade Pease that will be featured in the documentary program of 6th ZFF.
The dark side of recent history of the world will be shown in 'Bomb Harvest' that which deals with the consequences of war in Laos as it follows an Australian specialist in mine removal who teaches the local population, while hope in a better tomorrow comes in 'Train of Freedom, a documentary about a train that rides through Kosovo Polje through a conflict area around Mitrovica all the way to Leshak on the border with Serbia, trying to remove the obstacles created through ethnic tension on Kosovo.
In the end, all of you who don’t know what is being commemorated on September 21st will be able to see it in the documentary 'Day After Peace', directed by Jeremy Gilley as it tells the story of his mission – creation of the the International Day of Peace. |
